Microsoft Windows

• Hardware/Software Requirements
  1. Windows 2000 or better. (Windows Vista has been tested to work, Windows XP recommended)
  2. Administrative privileges during initial install and subsequent updates.
  3. 128 MB or RAM (256 or more recommended)
  4. Approximately 200 MB of free Disk Space.
  5. Internet connection, broadband (DSL/Cable/T1) strongly recommended.

• ReportWriter Installer 4.4.6 This is the full version of ReportWriter. If you aren't sure, this is probably what you want.

• 4.4.6 Patch Patches are applied automatically by the program during a synch. Sometimes, however, a firewall will stop this from happening. This file is provided for these rare circumstances.

• Language Libraries These are the computer language libraries needed to run ReportWriter. These libraries are part of the full installer. If you are running a patched copy of ReportWriter and are experiencing any issues installing the libraries, click on this and install.

• Foxit PDF Viewer (Best performance)
• Adobe Acrobat 8.0 Installer
• Adobe Acrobat 5.1 Installer (Recommended for slower computers)

Macintosh OS X

• Hardware/Software Requirements:
  1. Macintosh OSX 10.3 (Panther) or OSX 10.4 (Tiger)
  2. PPC (G4/G5 recommended) or Intel-based processor.
  3. 128 MB of RAM. (256 or better recommended)
  4. Macintosh Xcode Tools.
     • 10.5: found on the OSX Install DVD.
     • 10.4: found on the OSX Install DVD.
     • 10.3: found here
  5. Macintosh X11.
     • 10.5: found on the OSX Install DVD.
     • 10.4: found on the OSX Install DVD.
     • 10.3: found here
  6. Internet connection is required periodically. Cable/DSL or better strongly recommended.
  7. Approximately 250-450 MB of disk space in the /Users folder. (home folder) In normal use, this would be about 75-150 MB.
  8. Once the XCode and X11 libraries are installed with an administrative account, administrative privileges are not required to use ReportWriter.

• Installer Files:

• Useful Information

  Some users have reported problems on recent versions of Leopard (10.5) which cause ReportWriter to not load properly. There are a number of symptoms, including an inability to type text in ReportWriter, or your dock "blinking" repeatedly after attempting to run ReportWriter. Apple has released a fix which should solve this and related problems, so try this if you experience "strangeness" running ReportWriter. Perform the following steps exactly:

  1. Reboot your Macintosh.
  2. Download this package and install it.
  3. Reboot your Macintosh, again.
  4. ReportWriter should run without problem.

Unix/Linux

• Encoded Source Files (for Linux/Unix) You can use ReportWriter on your Linux/Unix system. We haven't yet built an installer yet, but instructions are avaiable here

Installation CD

• 4.4.6 Installation CD For those with a CD-R or CD-R/W drive, you can download this file to create an installation Disk. This is probably the best option if you are going to be installing ReportWriter on multiple systems, particularly if your Internet Connection is slow or unreliable.
  The CD contains the full 4.4.6 installers for Windows & Macintosh, the 4.4.6 update, and all default curricula. Time to download on a modem: at least 2 hours.

  Once you have downloaded the CD file, use our instructions for multiple system installation.

• Windows XP does not come with any software to burn an ISO file to a CD. You must buy or find software to convert the copy the Installation CD file to a CD or DVD. A common application for this is called "Roxio". But we use (free) ISO Recorder for this task.
  Make sure you get the correct version for your particular flavor of Windows - Windows versions before Windows XP are not supported. (2000, Windows 98/95/ME, etc.)


• 4.4.6 course files only to be put on a flash disk or similar removable media for rapid "fresh" synchs.
