ReportWriter Newsletter

Just a reminder to do a synch by the end of the month (February 28th) if you haven't done one since February 19th. This will update your ReportWriter for another month. You always know how many days you have until the end of the next month (when you have to synch again) by looking at the "expires" at the top of your RW program.

We've had lots of updates this month to add little fixes or features to the program. Very rarely do we "force" a synch. This happens only when there is a concern that you may lose data or at the end of each month. So if you see a notice for an update, usually you can choose when to do the synch to get the update.

New this month:

1. Reminder how expiration updates work.: The expiration days showing at the top of your ReportWriter program tells you how many days until the end of the month - generally. We reset the date about 5-8 days before the end of the month so sometimes you will have more than the usual 30 or so days until expiration. If you do not synch before the end of the month, it will close the program and force you to do a synch (short for synchronize). We usually suggest you don't skip the courses at least once a month to pick up new courses and corrections on old courses.

2. Why disable/transfer students?: If you aren't working with a student anymore, go to FILE and DISABLE/TRANSFER and then do a synch. This places students in an inactive mode so your school is not charged for the student. You can get the student back at any time if you need to re-activate them or review old records. You can also use this process to update the spelling of a student name (for schools not using our School Pathways Student Information System). A quick phone call to us and we will change the spelling of the name and send the student back to you.

3. Getting your curriculum on ReportWriter.

Many schools use the books we have on ReportWriter but you have different assignments - schoolwide. Instead of using the lesson-plan format we have entered, we offer your curriculum department the opportunity to "tweak" the course to meet your needs. Then we enter the course back into the program with your school's initials in front of the course. When you choose curriculum to use with your students, you can then just search for your school's courses to use, knowing that each module is exactly what you will need to assign. If your school uses set curriculum for all students, give us a call to see if this would work for you.

Any curriculum can be entered into ReportWriter. We enter texts or virtual courses we think a high number of clients would be interested in. If you have other texts you would like to see, let us know. We may put your choice on our list.

Two other ways you can get your favorite curriculum on RW:

Type a curriculum yourself to add to our program. You would type it into a Word document and send it to us for inputting.
Pay School Pathways to type up your book to add to our program. We need the text (usually the teacher's addition) in our office and keep the text on our shelves for reference if we do this. We can give you an estimate over the phone for this service.
